Supervision and Reflective Practice for School-Based Staff
Our Psychologist, Amelaine, is currently accepting new supervision clients.
Our service is based on the reflective-practice model used in other helping professions such as counselling, social work and psychology. It is distinctly different to line management, career coaching or mentoring which you might receive or offer to staff with an experienced or senior educator.
Who is this designed for?
There is a rapidly growing body of research highlighting the many benefits of reflective-practice for school staff. Supervision-style reflective practice can be beneficial for educators of all experience levels, school executive staff and principals, support staff, school psychologists and counsellors, learning diversity staff, and anyone else involved in wellbeing-related aspects of your school.
Benefits of Supervision for Education
Supporting you to feel confident in your wellbeing-related decisions
An essential element of supervision is supporting you to understand and manage wellbeing issues faced by students. Wellbeing issues can often be complex and associated with mental health concerns, students at risk, complex family situations, or where multiple people or agencies might be involved. Supervision can support your decision-making in relation to these situations and help build confidence and capability in managing wellbeing issues.
Too often, fantastic staff burnout and leave due to the cognitive load of their profession, especially when it comes to holding the wellbeing of students in mind while balancing other responsibilities and time pressures both at work and home. Supervision can help identify and implement healthy work-related boundaries, manage stress, boost wellbeing and increase personal resilience. These factors all play a role in reducing burnout, increasing overall health and promoting work-life balance.
Protecting your wellbeing and work-life balance, so you can stay in the profession!
Supervision is a dedicated, impartial and safe space to reflect on and solve challenges and other professional issues faced within your work. Part of this can be identifying opportunities for professional growth based on the skills, abilities and experience you already have, and building your career in a direction that is meaningful and worthwhile.

Supervision from an AHPRA-Registered Psychologist
Our education-specific supervision is offered by our Psychologist, who has many years of experience offering wellbeing support within the education sector, and therefore has a unique understanding of the complexities and competing pressures that are often at play within a school environment.
This service was born out of our psychologist’s deep passion for supporting wellbeing in schools, and recognition that the support for many staff in wellbeing-related roles was worryingly lacking, often leading to burnout and ultimately many great teachers leaving the professional altogether. Good Health Psychology is passionate about preventative mental health, for which schools are a prime space to support many children and young people who are struggling with mental health, the impact of illness in themselves or family members, family separation and transition, family relocation, and many other life and wellbeing difficulties. Teachers and wellbeing support staff are the primary support at school for many students experiencing these challenging situations, but often these staff lack formal support for managing these situations or looking after themselves while doing so. This is were professional supervision can support teachers, school executives and other school-based wellbeing staff.
